The Ministry of Internal Affairs launches proceedings against singer Aleksandre Mrelashvili, a witness to a wedding incident at a Telavi hotel

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched proceedings involving singer Aleksandre Mrelashvili, one of the witnesses to an incident that occurred during a wedding at a hotel in Telavi.

The MIA told InterPressNews that Mrelashvili was questioned at a police station as a witness in connection with the incident at the wedding. During the questioning, he allegedly refused to remain at the station for an extended period, after which he verbally insulted police officers and damaged a storage locker.

According to the MIA, officers of the Kakheti Police Department detained one person on charges of intentionally causing minor bodily harm.

According to witness statements, during a wedding at a hotel in Telavi, foreign nationals staying at the hotel allegedly insulted people attending the wedding from the balcony of their hotel room and poured water on the equipment. The accused then physically assaulted a foreign national woman.

The injured woman was taken to a clinic for medical assistance.

The MIA said the alleged perpetrator was detained following operational and investigative measures. The investigation is being conducted under Article 120 of the Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to three years’ imprisonment.
