Georgia may not have rich natural resources, but we have significant potential related to transit opportunities, which could allow us to transport truly rich resources, existing today in Central Asia, through Georgia and deliver them to Western markets. This is what could interest the U.S. and shift strategic relations, but this is hindered by the policy pursued by Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"We want to respond to a very important new initiative for Georgia that has been launched in the U.S. Senate. It is a bipartisan initiative, which suggests that the U.S. should implement a special policy and response to counter China's attempts to seize critically important infrastructure, specifically ports. We all remember that Bidzina Ivanishvili drove Western investors out of the Anaklia Port project and practically decided to transfer this port to China. This is not only a challenge for our country in terms of strategic security but also potentially prevents us from creating an important pillar for the renewal of strategic relations between Georgia and the United States. These relations were destroyed by Bidzina Ivanishvili over the past years. We see that today, U.S. policy is based primarily on creating interests and protecting these interests. Georgia may not have rich natural resources, but we have the significant potential related to transit opportunities, which could allow us to transport truly rich resources, existing today in Central Asia, through Georgia and deliver them to Western markets. This is what could interest the U.S. and shift strategic relations, but this is hindered by the policy pursued by Bidzina Ivanishvili. This directly relates to our country becoming more firmly aligned with Russia and China and pushing the West out of our region. This directly contradicts the interests of the Georgian people. We, from 'Strong Georgia' and 'Lelo,' have long had not only a corresponding action plan but have also begun working to bring back American investments in the Anaklia port and restart the project's implementation process with Western assistance. However, this cannot happen as long as political power in the country is controlled by the illegitimate government of Bidzina Ivanishvili. For us, for the future of our state, for the existence of our state, it is extremely important to solve two issues: the rapid resumption of the EU accession process and the rapid resumption of strategic relations with the U.S. Achieving both of these tasks requires a change of government, a legitimate, democratically elected government. Today, every citizen of Georgia must see that not only the future of our state but also their personal security and protection are directly linked to the implementation of this task," Salome Samadashvili said.
