Mzia Amaglobeli's lawyers are petitioning the court to lift the detention order

Mzia Amaglobeli's lawyers are petitioning the court to lift the detention order and to terminate the criminal case initiated against her. The lawyers made this statement at a press conference held at the office of the "Young Lawyers Association."

According to them, the Prosecutor's Office unlawfully initiated criminal prosecution against Mzia Amaglobeli.

"Mzia Amaglobeli's lawyers will present a motion tomorrow requesting the cancellation of her detention order. As the public knows, the Prosecutor's Office unlawfully initiated criminal prosecution against Mzia Amaglobeli. The charges against her are illegal, and the detention used against her is also unlawful. This case meets all the criteria confirming politically motivated prosecution," said Nona Kurdovanidze, the head of the Young Lawyers Association (GYLA).

Furthermore, another of Mzia Amaglobeli's lawyers, Maia Mtsariashvili, stated that Mzia Amaglobeli is a political prisoner, as her prosecution fits the criteria outlined in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's Resolution No. N1900(2012). According to her, there are no legal grounds for the ongoing criminal prosecution and detention of Mzia Amaglobeli.

"Given the current circumstances, we demand the following: 1. The court should allow the defense's motion, annul the detention order, and release Mzia Amaglobeli from unlawful imprisonment; 2. The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia should immediately terminate the unlawful criminal case against Mzia Amaglobeli; 3. The Special Investigative Service should fulfill its obligations and properly investigate the case of improper treatment of Mzia Amaglobeli; 4. The Prosecutor's Office should grant Mzia Amaglobeli the status of a victim; 5. The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia should initiate criminal prosecution against Grigol Vashadze and the relevant police officers under his command for the unlawful detention and administrative prosecution of Mzia Amaglobeli; 6. The Prosecutor's Office should begin criminal prosecution against Irakli Dgebuadze for the improper treatment of Mzia Amaglobeli on January 12, 2025, and for the unlawful detention of Tsiala Katamadze during the protest in Batumi on January 11, 2025; 7. The Prosecutor's Office should initiate prosecution against all employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who participated in the unlawful administrative detention and prosecution of the participants in the January 11-12, 2025 Batumi protest," said Mtsariashvili.
