Within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, on behalf of the Georgian delegation, participated in the "Future Summit" initiated by the UN Secretary General, António Guterres.

According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili attended the opening ceremony of the summit, after which he gave a speech in an interactive dialogue on the issues of improving global governance institutions and sustainable development.

"In his speech, Ilia Darchiashvili emphasized the importance of international financial institutions in overcoming the challenges facing the world. He also drew attention to Georgia's successful cooperation with world financial institutions and also spoke extensively about the country's economic and financial policy, as a result of which sustainable economic growth has been observed in Georgia in recent years. He noted the government's efforts to promote the further economic development of the country, including the development of global transport projects and infrastructure, and in this regard expressed hope for successful cooperation with international financial institutions.

"Future Summit" is held under the auspices of the UN Secretary General within the framework of the General Assembly. The summit was preceded by António Guterres's 2021 report "Our Common Agenda", where the Secretary General called on member states to hold a "Future Summit" in order to effectively deal with the world's challenges and further strengthen global cooperation. The event was attended by the heads of state and foreign ministers of the UN member states. "Future Summit" will last several days.
