According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection from the Occupied Territories of Georgia, the state spending on health care amounted to 450 million in 2012, and in 2024 it amounts to more than 1.62 billion GEL.
He mentioned this during his speech in the Parliament, in the format of "Minister's Hour", where he spoke about the importance of the universal healthcare program and its 11-year results.
As the Minister of Health said, the implementation of the universal health care program made it easier for the population to access quality medical services necessary for life, and the out-of-pocket expenses of the citizens were drastically reduced.
"Unfortunately, it seems that Georgia has lost a lot of time in previous years in terms of proper management of the health sector. Someone would mask it well, someone would miss it here and there, but ultimately, until the end of 2012, the Georgian healthcare system was governed by the principle that spending money on patient well-being was considered throwing money into a black hole. Under the initiative of Bidzina Ivanishvili, during her prime ministership, the universal healthcare program started in 2013, which put the healthcare system in Georgia on the right and irreversible development tracks. It can be said that a serious approach to the realization of the constitutional right to health care in Georgia begins right from this time, and this program is the main backbone of the development of the health care system," said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
The Minister of Health, as a proof of his statement, cited the state expenditures on health care, which amounted to 450 million GEL in 2012, and and in 2024 it amounts to more than 1.62 billion GEL.
"The difference, you will understand, is not only impressive, but we are talking about a completely different approach. The increasing dynamics in this direction have been maintained for years," said the Minister of Health.
