European Parliament adopted a resolution based on the annual report on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).
The amendment to the text of the resolution was initiated by MEP Anna Fotiga.
In a resolution, the European Parliament calls on the European Union and its member states to recognize the European perspective of Georgia and Ukraine.
"[EP] Reiterates that Georgia and Ukraine have a European perspective pursuant to Article 49 TEU and may apply to become Member States of the Union, provided that they adhere to all of the Copenhagen criteria and the principles of democracy, respect fundamental freedoms and human and minority rights, and uphold the rule of law; calls, therefore, for the EU and its Member States to recognise Georgia’s and Ukraine’s European perspective, which is considered vitally important for the countries’ security and stability, as well as a driver for them to continue implementing internal reforms," reads the resolution.
