It will be mandatory to constantly fly a state flag on school and kindergarten buildings and to display the state coat of arms in full. It is also mandatory for these institutions to place the text of the Georgian national anthem in a visible place.
In this regard, draft amendments to the Law on the Rule of Use of State Symbols of Georgia, drafted by Georgian Dream MP Kakha Kakhishvili, were adopted by the Parliament in the first reading with 94 votes. The bill was supported by part of the opposition, including MPs from the faction National Movement.
As Kakhishvili noted during the presentation of the project, as a result of the legislative change, children will learn the meaning of the national symbols and develop respect for them from the early age.
"For any foreign passer-by on the streets of Western countries, it is obvious how respectful the national symbols are in these countries, where national flags are hoisted not only on public institutions but on the roofs and balconies of private buildings as well. Unfortunately, we do not have the practice and tradition of this in Georgia yet. That is why it is important to teach our next generation that they should respect national symbols," Kakhishvili said.
