Particularly disturbing was yesterday's decision by the Russian Duma to address to the Russian president to recognize Ukraine's territories. This is categorically unacceptable. We condemn this step and believe that if such a decision is implemented, it will aggravate the already difficult situation and jeopardize international agreements, - Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani said in his speech at the event dedicated to the Day of Unity of Ukraine at the Ukrainian Embassy.
According to Zalkaliani, the Russian Federation once again neglects the fundamental principles of international law, which "unfortunately led us to the situation in which the world today finds itself and endangers the modern European security system as a whole."
According to him, no one has the right to forbid sovereign, independent countries to choose their own security alliances and to question the aspirations of the countries to be full members of the European and Euro-Atlantic family.
“Particularly disturbing was yesterday's decision by the Russian Duma to address to the Russian president to recognize Ukraine's indivisible territories. Of course, this is categorically unacceptable, we condemn this step and believe that if such a decision is implemented, it will aggravate the already difficult situation and jeopardize the international agreements that Ukraine has signed. In the 21st century, when the whole world's efforts should be directed to the solution of global, universal problems, we see once again the neglect of the fundamental principles of international law by the Russian Federation, which unfortunately led to a situation in which today's world and the modern European security system are threatened.
All this is a threat not only to our states, but it is also a common European challenge. No one has the right to forbid sovereign, independent countries to choose their own security alliances and to question our aspiration to be a full member of the European and Euro-Atlantic family”, said the Foreign Minister.
“We once again express our solidarity and strong support to the brotherly Ukrainian people in the fight for freedom. We always stand by your side, because we are well aware of the price of freedom. Therefore, I believe that this should be a day of unity of both Ukraine and the whole progressive society. Our diplomats will be with the international community where there will be a constant struggle for freedom and our unity," said Zalkaliani.
