Ukrainian Rada calls on international community not to recognize the independence of so-called people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk

Ukrainian Rada appeals to the UN, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, governments and parliaments around the world not to recognize the self-proclaimed republics, the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Ukrainian lawmakers passed a resolution condemning any attempt by Russia to recognize the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Members of the Verkhovna Rada also called on international organizations to reaffirm Ukraine's territorial integrity and inviolability within its internationally recognized borders and to condemn any Russian action aimed at worsening the situation in Ukraine and the world at large.

The Ukrainian parliament also demands that the UN Security Council convene an emergency meeting on the issue of escalation along Ukraine's borders.

In the document, the Ukrainian parliament supports the urgent use of additional sanctions mechanisms against Russia to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
