So-called foreign ministry of occupied Abkhazia: One should not blindly believe that members of the General Assembly will listen only to the voice of Tbilisi when making specific decisions

The de facto foreign ministry of occupied Abkhazia responds to the comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, according to which, another propaganda step is being taken by the occupation regime, which lacks any real prospect of implementation.

"The Georgian Foreign Ministry reacted to the request of Inal Ardzinba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia to A. Guterres, UN Secretary General to grant Abkhazia observer status at the United Nations. The Foreign Ministry of Georgia believes that "new steps of the occupation regime to legitimize itself are doomed to another failure. In addition, Tbilisi has no doubt that "the international community recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

We should remind Georgian diplomats that it is a resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and not the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, that grants the status of a UN observer. Georgia can comfort itself endlessly with the idea that the international community does not recognize the sovereignty of Abkhazia, but one should not blindly believe that members of the General Assembly will listen only to the voice of Tbilisi when making specific decisions.

The nervous reaction of the Georgian Foreign Ministry vividly demonstrates Tbilisi's unwillingness to take into account the new political realities in the Trans-Caucasus and to move towards ensuring sustainable security in the region.

It is time for the international community to realize that Georgia is continuing its efforts to isolate the Republic of Abkhazia internationally, cynically violating the basic rights of its citizens and causing numerous humanitarian problems. It is also important to bear in mind that supporting Tbilisi's unilateral position only encourages Georgia's confrontational attitude and prevents agreement within the internationally recognized negotiation mechanism - the Geneva International Discussions," says the so-called foreign ministry in a statement.

For the record, the Georgian Foreign Ministry responded to the appeal of the so-called government of occupied Abkhazia to the UN regarding the status of an "observer state".

"Another propaganda step is being taken by the occupation regime, which lacks any real implementation. Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity are recognized by the international community within its international borders. The international community does not recognize the so-called independence of the occupied territories of Georgia. Occupying regimes have repeatedly attempted similar propaganda moves to strengthen the image of an 'independent' entity, which usually ends in failure," the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mari Narchemashvili said.
