The Strasbourg court has found a violation in the case of 19-year-old Salome Jorbenadze, who was killed by her ex-husband. Information about this is spread by the Young Lawyers Association.
According to the organization, the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of Article 2 of the European Convention - Right to Life and Article 14 of the European Convention – Prohibition of discrimination.
"The European Court found a violation in the case of femicide committed by a police officer. Today, 10 February 2022, the European Court of Human Rights delivered a judgment in the case of A and B v. Georgia.
Salome Jorbenadze, 19, was killed on July 25, 2014 in Zestaponi by her ex-husband, Sergi Satseradze, an employee of the Zestaponi District Division, with a service weapon. Prior to the murder, Salome had appealed to the Zestaponi police, the Prosecutor's Office and the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for protection from the perpetrator. Nevertheless, no measures were taken to stop the abuser. The European Court found a violation of the right to life (Article 2 of the European Convention) and the right not to be discrimination against (Article 14 of the European Convention). GYLA worked on the case in cooperation with the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) and Partnership for Human Rights (PHR),” reads the statement released by GYLA.
