Anzor Chubinidze refuses to testify in court in the case of Mikheil Saakashvili

I have nothing to do with the episode of the accusation that is being discussed today, said Anzor Chubinidze, the head of the Special State Protection Service, who was called as a witness in the case of the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.

He refused to testify before the court.

"I have been working as the head of the Special State Protection Service since February 2013. I know about the embezzlement of property by Mikheil Saakashvili and Teimuraz Janashia. I know this stage and the charge relates to the period 2009-2013. During this period I was not the head of the Service and had no contact to it. I am called here as a defense witness. To be honest, I do not understand why Anzor Chubinidze was called to strengthen the positions of the defense.

I think that the accused himself and his lawyers are much more competent and have a much better idea of why and for what these funds were spent. So, I have to confirm that I did not have any contact with this before 2009-2013. Also, I would like to clarify that it is publicly known that the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the period of 2013, when I was already the head of the Service. An investigation is underway into the legality of the money spent in favor of Mikheil Saakashvili. I have nothing to do with the episode of the accusation that is being discussed today. Consequently, any words, phrases and positions that I voice today can be interpreted in a way that will be used against me in the future. In this regard, I would like to state that I would like to use the right provided by Article 15 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows me to refuse to testify in court," said Anzor Chubinidze.
