The trial of former President Mikheil Saakashvili and former head of the Special State Protection Service Teimuraz Janashia, accused of embezzling large sums of money, will be held on February 9.
The hearing is scheduled for 11:00 in Tbilisi City Court.
Former President Mikheil Saakashvili is expected to attend the trial.
The evidence of the defense will be examined at trial. In particular, Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyers plan to interrogate Anzor Chubinidze, the current head of the Special State Protection Service, as a witness, however, it is unknown whether Chubinidze will testify. The court has already sent notifications for questioning to Anzor Chubinidze several times, however, he did not appear in court due to his official duties.
For reference, in the mentioned case, which is known to the public as the so-called "jackets' case" along with Mikheil Saakashvili, former head of the Special State Protection Service Teimuraz Janashia is also accused. The Prosecutor's Office accuses the defendants of embezzling a large amount of budget money - GEL 9 million.
