Davit Kirkitadze sentenced to 5,000 GEL bail

Davit Kirkitadze, a member of parliament from the United National Movement, was sentenced to 5,000 GEL bail as a restraint measure.

The decision was made by the judge of Rustavi City Court Ketevan Luashvili.

At today's hearing, where the imposition of a restraining measure on Davit Kirkitadze was discussed, the Prosecutor's Office demanded a 10,000 GEL bail for him, while the defense demanded that he be released without a restraining measure.

According to the lawyer Alexander Mgeladze, Kirkitadze did not commit a crime, on the contrary, he was in a position of defending himself. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the accused Kirkitadze was not in a state of self-defense, as no one had physically abused him.

Davit Kirkitadze left the court session as a sign of protest and he did not attend the announcement of the decision.

The case concerns the confrontation near the office of the United National Movement in Rustavi on October 24, 2021. Davit Kirkitadze was charged under Article 126, Part 1, Subparagraph G of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulates other types of violence that caused physical pain to the victim. The charge envisages up to two years of imprisonment.
