According to prosecutor Natia Guruli, if the accused Gigi Ugulava agrees to amnesty, the criminal case against him will be terminated on the same day. The prosecutor talked to journalists in Tbilisi City Court, where the trial of Ugulava’s case, which concerns the beating of judoka Badri Gavashelishvili, was held.
According to the prosecutor, Gigi Ugulava refuses amnesty, therefore, the hearing of the case continues.
"If the accused Gigi Ugulava agrees to amnesty, the criminal case against him will be terminated on the same day. However, he does not want that. Consequently, we are also obliged to bring all those who have been interviewed and questioned about the case and who have information about the circumstances relevant to the case," Natia Guruli said, noting that the investigation into the case was conducted objectively.
The incident involving Gigi Ugulava took place at Tbilisi Airport on December 11, 2019. Ugulava is charged with Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violence. He is accused of beating judoka Badri Gavashelishvili.
