According to the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, pardoning the former President Mikheil Saakashvili will be the basis for over-polarization, not depolarization. Asked whether she would reconsider her "no and never" statement regarding the pardon, Zurabishvili said she is keeping her word.
"I always keep my word and I think there is no one who can say that I did not fulfill my word, this is also a matter of trust. Based on those three examples - Ugulava, Okruashvili, Rurua pardon - the public saw that when I thought I could take a step in the direction of slight depolarization, no matter how painful or sensitive it was, I took that step.
In this case, the main thing is that I am deeply convinced that such a step will be the basis for over-polarization and not for depolarization, if anyone convinces me otherwise... but I do not think so. Saakashvili's return was one of the steps towards polarization and over-polarization. I will not do anything that will lead to additional polarization," Zurabishvili said.
