There is tension at the moment in the village of Zeghduleti in Gori Municipality, where there have been several confrontations between the local population and law enforcers.
Residents of Zeghduleti are still demanding the return of rural pastures sold in 2011 to the countryside. With this demand, the people of Zeghudeli held their third rally over the last month.
They have been trying to block the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway since this morning as a sign of protest. The law enforcers mobilized in the village did not allow this, which led to confrontations. Police removed one person from the area during the confrontation.
The above-mentioned section of the Gori-Bershueti road is blocked at the moment.
Authorities met with the population on the spot today. Shida Kartli Governor Valerian Mchedlidze, Gori Municipality Mayor Vladimer Khinchegashvili and other government officials visited Zeghduleti.
According to Koba Berianidze, a majoritarian MP from the Zeghduleti community in the Gori City Council, the government is trying to find legal ways to prevent the violation of the rights of the current owner of the land, who is a bona fide purchaser, and to take into account the interests of the population.
