According to the Minister of Defense of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, negotiations are underway with Poland, the Czech Republic and Israel to establish joint enterprises.
As Gharibashvili said at the presentation of the Ministry of Defense 2020 report, by the end of 2021 the army will be fully equipped with NATO-standard M4 rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and other means.
"Development of the national military industry is one of our main priorities. Next year we will take effective steps to complete the ongoing projects and start new ones. In this regard, to gain more knowledge and experience, we have started negotiations to set up joint enterprises with our partner countries Poland, the Czech Republic and Israel.
Artillery will be one of the most prominent directions. It is planned to purchase modern portable anti-aircraft systems in 2021. Operational and tactical unmanned reconnaissance and combat drones will be purchased next year, and we also plan to equip reconnaissance units with state-of-the-art reconnaissance equipment. In 2021, we will start purchasing modern short-range anti-tank equipment, and by the end of the year our army will be fully equipped with NATO-standard M4 rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and other equipment", - said Irakli Gharibashvili.
